Safety In Sparkle
Project type
public art, art car, functional art
Even though I own a vehicle, I live in a downtown urban area, so my main set of wheels is my scooter. My previous one got jacked at the mall, so when the new one arrived, I decided it was time to make it conspicuous. I used to be staff at Burning Man and I'm used to decorating my bikes. Decorating my scooter just made sense.
In short: I learned how to use holographic car wrap. And on top of that, I added rhinestones and googly eyes.
In part because I believe that function and colour and personality can coexist, but also because I especially like functions to be embedded in play.
The silly shine of it all makes it stand out, so people notice it, so it's harder to steal. And the light reflecting properties of the wrap and the rhinestones make it more visible on the road. When I add LEDs, (my next step), the reflective surfaces will help catch the light and scatter it further, turning me into a small moving constellation.
